A customer support chain
A chain defined by a programmer before requests arrive
The programmer defines the sequence in advance. A customer asks, "Where is order #42?" LLM call 1 identifies an order status question. LLM call 2 extracts order number 42. Application code queries the order database and receives the status "Shipped." LLM call 3 writes the reply, "Order #42 has shipped." Each numbered LLM box is a separate request to the model. The original customer message remains available to the steps that need it. The database query is an ordinary code step. The dashed arrow shows the programmer defining the chain. Solid arrows show the sequence and its results.
